As one of most popular Mediterranean destinations in Europe, Croatia has experienced a major investment boom in the hotel industry in recent years. In 2020 and 2021 the hotel developments are shifting to the north – with a luxury glamping resort developing in the Lika region, a new convention center for 1,200 delegates opening in Poreč and new hotels in the capital of Zagreb.
Tesla Nest Glamping Resort, Lika Region
Dedicated to the Croatian born inventor and futurist Nikola Tesla, the new luxury resort lies by a lake near Lovinac, 65 km drive to Zadar airport.
Tesla Nest resort will feature 62 luxurious contemporary wooden and canvas houses and villas hidden in the treetops, forest or by the lake. At the two restaurants, one in the forest and one by the lake, the resort will redefine the concept of sustainable cuisine. The resort invites guests to enjoy its indoor heated pool and spa treatments. All cars inside the resort will be electric.
Set to open in 2020, the Tesla Nest is surrounded by seven national parks in the area.
Hotel Ambasador, Split
Bought by Birkenstock heir Klaus Alex Birkenstock, the hotel Ambasador should see a highly anticipated reopening in May 2020. Located at the waterfront location in the historical part of Split, the city luxury hotel will feature 101 rooms and suites, a conference room for 70 delegates, a restaurant with 210 capacity inside and a terrace, spa and gym. The 4-plus property will be located at the site of a former hotel from 1937.
Valamar Pical Convention Centar, Poreč
In the romantic Istria, near Poreč, a new luxurious hotel is to open its doors to 514 rooms. Building on the tradition of the 514-year-old hotel, the future Pinea Hotel will be a luxurious five-star hotel with the largest conference center in Istria - Valamar Pical Convention Centar. Valamar Pical Convention Center will have conference capacity for 1,200 delegates, a congress hall for 700 people, 7 break out halls with the option of merging them as well as the option of merging a large congress hall and all break out rooms in a large event space with a total capacity of 2,300 people.
Scheduled to open by summer 2021, Pinea hotel will complement the Valamar Collection Marea Suites 5*, opened in 2019, growing to become one of most attractive Croatian destination.
Plitvice Hotel
The long awaited reconstruction of the first Yugoslav A-category hotel is scheduled to begin before winter 2020. Located inside the stunning Plitvice National Park, the boutique hotel Plitvice will feature 38 rooms, conference rooms, 2 restaurants and a wine bar as well as wellness centre. Combining the traditional style with contemporary elements, the renovated hotel will open in 2021.
Hilton Costabella Beach Resort and Spa
Located between Opatija and the coastal town of Rijeka, the Hilton Costabella Beach Resort and Spa will feature 198 rooms, of which 132 are part of the hotel and 66 will be villas, all with balconies or terraces with views over the Adriatic sea.
The resort will feature six on-site restaurants, including a beach bar and rooftop restaurant, a private sandy beach and extensive wellness facilities. The fourth Hilton in Croatia is due to open in 2020.
Zagreb Novotel Hotel
The first Novotel brand hotel in Croatia plans to open doors in Zagreb by end of 2020. The Zagreb Novotel will feature 170 rooms, a restaurant and a bar as well as conference rooms. The modern property will be located just 20 minutes from the city center and 15 minutes from the international Zagreb airport.
Olive Bay, Hvar
A unique luxury destination is developing on Hvar island, only 10 minutes’ drive from Hvar town and close to Stari Grad town. The Olive bay is the 60.000 sqm large waterfront site, where high-end hotels, villas, spas, restaurants are planned only a few meters from pebble beach and open sea.
